Fontana (LP)

Jacket VG / LP NM / Dutch pressing

This superb LP from Fontana · Philips (695 027 KL, Dutch pressing, blue/silver label, mono) features Herman Krebbers' remarkable account of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61, recorded with conductor Willem van Otterloo and the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra in the Grote Zaal of Amsterdam’s Concergebouw on 25 February 1952, a much underrated performance that is ripe for re-issue on compact disc. Filling out the disc are these same forces sublime reading of Beethoven’s Violin Romance No. 2 in F Major Op. 50, set down in the same acoustic only 3 months before, on 24 November 1951.

There are brief liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German only, as well as listing of other titles in this series.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is wear to the upper-left corner, as well as some discoloration / light ringwear to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other flaws, and the whole remains solid and attractive – overall, a very good collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is occasional light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
