Jacket EX / LP NM

This beautiful LP – a superb collector's copy – from Italian Columbia (QCX 10151, Italian pressing, red semi-circle label, mono – no stereo edition exists, laminated flipback jacket) features David Oistrakh's splendid performance of Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole Op. 21, taped on 13/14 November 1954 with Jean Martinon conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra, one of the truly great accounts of this work, a classic recording.

The tone is unmistakable, as is the generous personality, charm, and fantasy of the artist. The Lalo proves a fascinating calling card for Oistrakh, the contrasting movements mirroring the different sides of Oistrakh’s playing – the high-flying virtuoso and the more reflective musician.  Under Oistrakh’s bow the Symphony Espagnole emerges freshly minted, captivating from first till last, and a treasurable example of the art of the violin.
