This superb LP from Odeon (XOC 805, thick French pressing, yellow/brown label, mono, glossy laminated flipback jacket) features conductor Edouard Lindenberg and l’Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in magnificent performances of works by Schubert, Wagner, and Liszt, all taped in the rich acoustics of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris.

Schubert: Symphony No. 8 in B minor D. 759 “Unfinished”

Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries

These performances is imbued with a thrilling sense of occasion and the sound boasts great amplitude and a wide dynamic range – an outstanding recording in every way – really, an object lesson in how an orchestra should be recorded.

Not unlike Henry Swoboda, Rudolf Moralt, Hans Swarowsky, Louis de Froment, and others, Edouard Lindenberg was a truly superb conductor, now largely forgotten, but an artist whose legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, as well as some minor creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. The surfaces are not CD silent, and there are a few scattered tics (nothing repetitive), but in general the playback is outstanding. Only those requiring flawless surfaces need hesitate – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
