l'Oiseau-Lyre (LP)

Jacket VG / LP NM / UK pressing

This lovely LP from London · L’Oiseau-Lyre (SOL 60010, English pressing, green/silver label, stereo) features Thurston Dart and the Philomusica of London’s wonderful account of Handel’s Water Music (Suites Nos. I, II, III), sumptuously recorded in 1959 and sounding absolutely splendid here, the performances brought off with ringing festiveness and vitality.

The erudite and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket are by Thurston Dart himself, printed in English only. The striking cover art reproduces a detail from Joseph Verner’s “A Sporting Contest on the Tiber”.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a small tear near the upper-right corner, bumping at corners, and ringwear/discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
