Scherchen: Haydn Syms 92 Oxford & 94 Surprise - Westminster Japan G-10505

$55.00 USD

Westminster Japan (LP)

Jacket NM / LP NM

This lovely LP from Westminster Japan (G-10505, Japanese pressing, plum/silver script label, mono – no stereo version exists, no Obi) features Hermann Scherchen brilliant and path-finding early 1950s recordings of Haydn’s Symphonies No. 92 in G Major "Oxford" and No. 94 in G Major “Surprise”, both recorded with the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in the warm acoustics of the Mozart-Saal, Konzerthaus, Vienna, in October 1951.

Originally recorded and released by Westminster in 1951, this prefect facsimile not only reproduces the original coverart, but also the liner notes by Paul Affelder and even the label design. Transfers are expertly done and the sound is arguably smoother and richer than the original 1951 pressing. The insert with notes in Japanese is included; otherwise, all texts are in English, both on the jacket and the label of the LP.
