Jacket: VG / Vinyl: NM / Polish pressing
This superb LP from Muza · Polskie Nagrania (SX 1369, Polish pressing, blue label, stereo) features the remarkable conductor Witold Rowicki and the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra in a stirring account of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64, warmly recorded in Warsaw in 1965.
Rowicki was one of the great conductors of the last century and his recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc. This Tchakovsky Fifth is simply stunnin, with sound to match.
There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Witold Sebyla, printed in both Polish and English. The cover design was executed by St. Bernacinski based on a photo by M. Holzman. This album was produced by J. Urbanski and engineered by K. Urbanska.
